I need to sleep

I am sorry for the no update. I need to fight my extreme headache and fatigue with some rest. From time to time I get this kind of no real reason illness where I just have terrible headache and it won't go away with Aspirin. So I just need to stay away from the computer for a few days and just sleep.

Hopefully I can go back to normal in a couple of days.

Friday Collective - Cat Love

My cat had a near death experience this week, not that she thinks that's what it was...she probably thinks it's fun. ;[

We had some net shield for our windows, for some reason she managed to find a loop hole and jump on the narrow ledge of an open widow.

If you live in a house, you probably never think a window should be problem, but I live on the 26th floor, so, if there's a slight slip, she'd be out of the window and headed straight to the ground. Good that I caught her in the act, and get her out of there. She spent a few hours in her travel bag and meow and meow not knowing why she's in there.

Cats, don't ever trust that they have nine lives, their biggest enemy is always their overactive curiosities.

1. High Shelf, 2. Dang! He is Pissed :P, 3. "airborne cats" Now On Sale, 4. The quiet cat, 5. Innocence, 6. okjavou, 7. Curious Cat, 8. Beterraba, 9. Should've named her Mischief

Mad Men and Vintage Vogue

I read an really interesting interview with Mad Men's prop master Scott Buckwald by Collector Weekly. I did think about how interesting to be working on the show and be the set dresser and or the prop master. Mr. Buckwald mentioned all the tidbits of how they have to actually make their own props, recreate the magazine, or even the classic VW ad "Think Small" in Ad Age (Season 1?) is just fascinating. Now I know it's not just about scoring the authentic vintage items, but making them look like new, but not aged.

And it's sort of too much information for me to know that how they use the not so time authentic type writers for production reasons. Now I can't stop looking at the typewriters in the office scenes...

It also reminded me that I came across this vintage vogue blog a while back and how interseting that the person behind also has a tumblr blog specialized in the ads ran in the olden days.

Too see all the fab vintage fashion neatly categorized in era, check out the flickr stream from myvintagevogue.

I heart forest bookshelf

If I have wall space, or when I can finally get rid of my IKEA TV bookshelf set, I will get these bookshelves from Korea. I image my cat will love the tree very much and find all sort of hiding spots when I fill it with books. ;D

Mushrrom Love

I love mushrooms, living in the city, I always wish I can just go have a trip somewhere to pick all the different kind of mushrooms (edible ones) and cook a nice meal with them. I envy anybody who can have a backyard full of them.

This picture feels just kind of magical. I wish I can see the little guys in person.

Thinking ahead, 2010 Calendars

I see that quite some blogs are doing elaborate posts about 2010 calendars and it's just Oct. It does make me feel like the rest of the year is for some reason cancelled out and it's 2010 already!

Honestly, I am never really big on hanging calendars, as good looking as they are, I always forget to flip the pages when I needed and I am getting used to the digital ones for functional purposes. That said, there are quite some good looking calendars I don't mind just use them as wall decor.

Here are my calendar wishes. After I review my choices, I realize I have a tendency to go with simpler designs for calendars. ;D

A really basic simple design, made with recycled material. They can be displayed as cards, which I really like. Just having simple numbers on a blank wall can make it very quite interesting. ;D From bubbo

This set of die cut calendar is from one of my favorite paper good store A little Hut. They are just really elegant and I don't think I will get tired of looking at these the whole year.

Camilla Engman, enough said.

From one of my favorite illustrator and reader here. ;D gretchenmist

Do you love Catherine Campbell's lovely illustrations? I do. I am really drooling over this set. My Folk Lover

Bright and simple. Susy & Jack

That's all for now. I am sure as the new year approach, there'll be more good calendars popping up.

Yes, it's still 2009, and we still have a little less than 2 and half months of it. Don't worry.

Please welcome our new sponsor Yokomono Studio. She makes all these really lovely handbags, pouch and tissue paper box covers with great patterns and colors. I have marked my favorite and winking at my husband, hopefully he'll take the hints, the holiday season is coming, and he always feels kind of panic when there's little time left.

Go take a look at Yoko's shop and say hi. ;D

Illustration Love

I am really loving this line drawings of shoes by Melissa Four. I have lots of female friends have some serious addictions to shoes. My addiction is not as deep, especially these days I am just constantly wearing my flip flops, because I do mostly grocery and post office runs. ;D

All my heels are tucked away in this little corner in the store room.

Shop Update - 2009 Christmas Special Edition

If you are my mailing list subscriber you've already seen this. They are finally listed in my shop here.

I created this set of Christmas cards necklace because I remember how I loved sending out Christmas cards and writing special notes to my friends and relatives aboard. These days, it's all about sending them a facebook greetings. Life is much faster now, and sending snail mail is kind of rare thing.

So I come up with this 09 Christmas special edition, instead of sending them a card that probably get lost and thrown out after some years, send them a Christmas card necklace so they care wear it every Christmas. ;D

They are only available for this Christmas, I will hopefully come up with something else next year. ;D

Hi low Tech Pop Up Book

Ok, you may want to lower the sound volume on this one, because it's kind a strange tension type of music. (Not my taste, but you may like it) But I think the idea of pop up book combine with light is quite awesome and it's actually interactive which makes it even more cute. I can imagine my cat Annie goes wild after seeing this. ;D

I heart this - Carol W paper mache

This "My Kingdom for a Caramel!" (google translation) collection of paper mache creatures by Carol W. just amazes me. They are currently exhibited in a Brazil mall. This is like a children's book comes to live.

She also has a shop to sell her originals.

Makes me smile

I am having an extremely off week, nothings goes my way including some computer & printer problem, even now the blogger editor decided to do some weird things to me. Good things I finally fixed the Internet connection, and found this cute little illustration by .marmushka.

Sometimes, simple things is the best, all the complicated functions with all my computer equipments drives me a little nuts.

I heart this - Chopsticks plus one

As a Chinese, I use chopsticks everyday, and it's nice to see designer Aïssa Logerot (A French, I wonder if he eats lots of Asian food) put a little spin on it. It's spoon on chopsticks, but what if I need to use them both at the same time? I often do when I eat my bowl of rice. :D

He also has a chopsticks plus two design, with toothpicks inside the chopsticks.

A Thank You

I have to thank you for all of you who filled out the blog survey for all the blog and twitter love. Congratulations to Raphaëlle & Martha for winning the $50 cash coupons.

YellowGoat Shop

About

If you wonder why Yellowgoat, it's simple, because it's my name. ;D

Yellowgoat comes from the 2 Chinese characters in my name, when pronounce, it can sound like it means Yellow (last name) and Goat (first name), so this is how it came from.

The person behind this blog and the jewelry shop is a female, who's taken. I got married in Aug 2008, and one thing lead to another, I started learning a bit metalsmithing and jewelry making, then instantly I knew I want to do this for a very long time, and will be perfectly happy and enjoy it thoroughly.

Believe it or not, I used to be an animator, then became an local Ad TV producer, which has nothing to do with jewelry, but when I told my friends and family jewelry is what I'm heading, nobody was actually surprised, because I always get an eye for it since I was a teen, and managed to picked the really unique pieces that people looked, praised and asked.

My philosophy for my jewelry and this blog, is to bring happiness to others. I hope to share the joy of creating and finding beautiful things to all the readers and customers.

So, I am Yellowgoat.

(Lots of people ask what my "real" name is, if translate literally by meaning, my Chinese name is actually "King of ocean". ;D, but I go by Petula for a very long time, if you insist.)
