Fashion musing

I am finally looking into buying some fall or winter clothing, since we won't get anywhere under 30 degree Celcius till maybe mid Oct or early Nov. So usually I am in no hurry. While browsing around, I fall in love with Daydream Nation's AW collection. I am the black, white, gray and one piece dress kind of person. exactly what I need.

Oh, the airmail envelop ensemble...Too fun.

My updated DIY apartment wall

I spent some free time updating my apartment wall which I been meaning to do for quite a while. I ordered a laser cut acrylic version of my fly away balloon girl, and reused some of the elements of my existing paper decoration.

I really love the result, it's very me, and this is my husband's favorite necklace among all my pieces, so both of us feel very happy with a bit of scenery change.

As always, people commented how our apartment feels like kindergarten or a nursery...I guess it is a great carefree feeling if you live in a kindergarten. ;D

I heart this - Fabric Football / Soccer Ball

I am in no way a football (or soccer) fan, I really don't have the patience to sit for hours to hope for 2 or 3 goals, but I don't mind having a couple of these wool fabric balls around.

Object Stories with Annie - 002

Object: Japanese Boy and Girl soda bottles

Where did I buy it: Jusco 10 Dollar Store (Hong Kong Dollar)

Before these bottles, I hadn't discover the joy of browsing Jusco 10 dollar shop. If you come to Hong Kong and want to find cute little stuff for your home and even supplies for sewing and craft projects, this is the store you should visit.

Everything is 10 HKD unless marked otherwise, it has a really great bakery section, handcraft supply section, household items, pet section and then some. I can go in there and lost for hours.

This is pretty much the first decorating objects we had when my husband and I first moved in together, we originally only get the girl version, and waited for quite sometime for the chance to see the boy version in stock...so they are finally a pair. There was actual soda inside, but tasted super sweet, so we didn't really drink it. I really like any vintage looking labels.

What Annie has to say about them?

Meow, they smell funny...I only want to look from afar...

Too cute - Catherine Ledner's animal photogaphy

I am obsessed with taking picture of my Annie, though I always know taking pictures of animal is not an easy task, but until I actually do it, I never realize just how difficult it can be.

I was trying to find some animal photography inspiration, and I landed on Catherine Ledner's page. Three words, Just Too Cute.

I am now itching to buy some wallpaper and make my kitty dance...

Consumption Wednesday - Wedding gifts idea

I have a couple weddings I need to attend in Nov, though gift giving is not a Chinese tradition (we give red pockets with real money in them) but I am still wondering if I want to send out gifts that will remind them of their union. Both of the couples will start living together, so I am tackling this from the "home" angle.

After digging through my own wish list and some browsing, these all looks quite nice as wedding gifts:

Top: Mr. and Mrs pillows by I do take you.

Mid left: Ted light available at Rare Device

Mid right: Pebble Coasters from Little Factory (they are located in Hong Kong too)

Bottom left: Boxed Tea Service for 2 available from Violet

Bottom right: Handmade Signe narrow vase available from Radici

Happy Weekend

It will be a rainy weekend and my husband has to focus on work stuff, so I am going to sleep in and then take some afternoon nap. For me, sleeping is the best cure of the rainy day blue. But I lost the ability to sleep all day, I envy my Annie, she seems to excel in that.

Don't forget, today is the last day for your chance to win the faux pearl necklace from Very Lovely Vintage.

Guilty Pleasure

I've been a bad person, I admit I found out about the Wii Sports Resort game and I went out and bought it. Unfortunately, it's really addictive, I can play the table tennis bit for hours to no end....

I justified it by telling myself that the wii has been sitting around for too long, it needs to be played...;P

Friday Collective - Round and Round

My favorite thing in a carnival or theme park is anything that goes in a circle, especially the swing style merry go around. I thought about them because I was reading the news about the new train opened in our local Ocean Park, but honestly, I like the old fashion cable cars, so scary, and so much history and memories.

I hope this year we have the carnival in town for Christmas, we won the biggest bear a few years back. I have a longing for a whole day full of silly fun.

Dear Golden

I've been a long admirer of Lauren's vintage shop Dear Golden. Her pieces and the styling is really clean and nice. I am so thrill to have her become a sponsor here. Her shop is filled with everything from dress to blouse to accessories to shoes. I am totally smitten by the hat and this knit dress. Remind me of my aunt who has impeccable style and I growing up admiring her for all her lovely outfits. ;D

New and Noted Thursday - Head Gears

My friend and I were talking about headband this weekend, especially how it became so popular these days, people wear them not just for special occasions, but as everyday wear.

So, if you're in for shopping for a head gear to spice up your wardrobe, there are many new sellers coming up with different fab things, some of them are hoping for their first sale. ;D

Consumption Wednesday - Home improvement

I am itching to add something to my apartment, may be just a piece or two additions. While browsing around these two caught my eyes.

Top: I know that the laser cut mirror has been around for a long time, but I specially love this aviator sunglasses pair. I look odd with the real thing, so may be I can get them as mirror.

Bottom: I really love these, sort of Chinese, sort of not.

Object Stories with Annie - 001

I was deeply moved by a customer's email telling me how she gave her friend the Little Toy Boat necklace she purchased as birthday gift, and her friend shed some tears when receiving it because her father who passed away was a sailor. I also shed some happy tears that something I made with my own hands, has the ability to reach a person's heart. This and a post last week inspired me to do this Object Stories series, which I take photograph of my household objects, and tell you guys a bit of their back stories. I think I am perpetually fascinated by objects, and they represent bits of the owner's history and experience.

And of course, I can't do this without my feline family member, she really likes to get into the shots, so I just decided to include her.

Object: Orange porcelain deer

Where did I buy it: Santa Monica's Urban Outfitter

Whenever I looked at this deer, it reminds me of a TV ad that we shot on Mammoth Mountain. It was April, and we had to find snow for the Ad's concept...I loathe the combination of snow and high altitude, because my body can't deal with both at the same time, but unfortunately, it's a job that I had to go. This ad also pretty much marked the end of my ad producing career, it's the last project that I did.

After the shoot, we were taken to Santa Monica by the production house because we had this final half day before the return flight to Hong Kong, so we utilized those last hours to shop till we drop. This deer was on sale for only USD5...which was a real bargain.

Unfortunately, the deer head broke off after traveling over 13 hours on the plane, and you can see the little scratch on the neck, I glued it back on and I really love the little imperfection, it sort of gave it some instant history...

What Annie has to say about it?

Meow, it's big and I can't chew on it but I can hide behind it and hoping that you won't find me.

So true.

Shop Update - Today is...Necklace

Remember my Today is...Bangle? Well as promised, here's the necklace version. It took me way longer than I expected, but it's here.

To me this necklace carries a different function than the bangle, because the wearer can't really see it when they wear it, but it's really for people like me, who are being asked everyday of the same question. Now, you can be a moving calendar of sort, and people will look at you if they have doubt about what day is today.

It's listed here.

Today my husband looked at me and said: Yay! Friday. Indeed. Have a lovely Friday night. I am totally recovered from all kind of sickness, so, Yay for me too!

Friday Collective - Calmness

I am quite in love with Artpixie's photostream. This really inspires me to take picture of my home objects. Something I can do with still a bit of dizziness from the cold med.

True words Tuesday

Though my teeth are getting better after the dentist visit, but unfortunately I am now having a cold, I spent the whole Monday in and out of sleeps since I took some really drowsy med.

If you're feeling down for any reason, hang in there, it will get better, soon. ;D

YellowGoat Shop

About

If you wonder why Yellowgoat, it's simple, because it's my name. ;D

Yellowgoat comes from the 2 Chinese characters in my name, when pronounce, it can sound like it means Yellow (last name) and Goat (first name), so this is how it came from.

The person behind this blog and the jewelry shop is a female, who's taken. I got married in Aug 2008, and one thing lead to another, I started learning a bit metalsmithing and jewelry making, then instantly I knew I want to do this for a very long time, and will be perfectly happy and enjoy it thoroughly.

Believe it or not, I used to be an animator, then became an local Ad TV producer, which has nothing to do with jewelry, but when I told my friends and family jewelry is what I'm heading, nobody was actually surprised, because I always get an eye for it since I was a teen, and managed to picked the really unique pieces that people looked, praised and asked.

My philosophy for my jewelry and this blog, is to bring happiness to others. I hope to share the joy of creating and finding beautiful things to all the readers and customers.

So, I am Yellowgoat.

(Lots of people ask what my "real" name is, if translate literally by meaning, my Chinese name is actually "King of ocean". ;D, but I go by Petula for a very long time, if you insist.)
