Happy weekend

Don't you just love an open road?

Thank you for all the kind words about my painful mouth...The dentist visit proved to be even more painful, hopefully it will be cleared in 3 to 4 days. In the mean time, I can only eat cold and mushing things...that doesn't leave me with much options. That being said, I plan to fully enjoy the time off this week.

I wish you a dentist free weekend! ;P

Remember, the really cute and lovely Mobile of Color giveaway is ending today! Comment and RT if you haven't already.

Shop Update

If you haven't noticed already, I've listed quite some new items in my shop. I think I am going through a "cute" phrase of late that I just kept making simple "cute" things.

Except for the airplane, the top 3 items are a start of a little new series of mine, which I take my coffee shop receipt doodling, and translate them directly into metal. There is some kind of rawness to it that I sort of shied away from doing, so I kept doing lots of complicated pieces, to a certain point metal making is really tiring and no fun at all. My husband looked at my sketches and suggested I should just make the loads of scrap paper doodling I saved up. I am not entirely sure about this, but I hope you guys will like them.

You can click the image to to the shop listing. ;D

Friday Collective - Happy People

A couple weeks ago I created a flickr group called "Makes you happy", and surprisingly people had been posting some really nice photos of things that make them happy.

Unfortunately, I can't be too happy today. I have some serious pain with my gum and teeth, feels like an infection gone really bad. I am visiting the dentist today...something I really drag....Can't really imagine anyone get excited about a dental check up, even with the ice cream reward afterward...

Inspiration - Kelly Thompson

I have been admiring Kelly Thompson's work for quite a bit. This one speaks to me in particular. I have a fondness over the clever use of negative space.

The price tag is not affordable for me, but I am saving up. Good things are not cheap, as always.

I heart vintage dress

I've been meaning to post this fab vintage shop by anja louise verdugo. I keep forgetting and keep coming back and see her new listing. This duo of yellow and pink is totally on my heart list. I am not sure if the yellow one can hide my "big hip" problem, but the pink one, is totally on my "mad men" wardrobe wishlist that I am sort of obsessing about right now.

What I adore most though, is her backdrop. I am thinking of replacing my wall decor, and it will be a blow up version one of my product....I have so many things I need to work on, the list is getting out of one A4 page...

If you're wondering about the interview, I have to defer the Interview again, since I am not receiving the answer yet...

Makes me happy - Yellowgoat wax seal

I ordered a custom wax seal for my shop. ;D It turn out quite good. But I need to practice more to get a perfect seal, because the wax can be burnt so easily and turn black.

My mom used to have one in the office, it was the early to mid 80s that they used it to seal the important documents. After a while they just use glue and tapes... I am glad I can still easily order the stamp, but I want to find better quality wax, and if possible, in yellow. I love how nostalgic it feels, and makes whatever inside the envelop looks so much more important.

I am not sure what should I do with it as yet, because sealing the envelop will double my packing time, and it's hard to stamp an even stamp on non flat surface. May be I will use it for the boxes or as thank you card.

Sale Alert!

My lovely Yellowgoat friends, do you love vintage kitchenware? I do! My good friend Jennifer is doing a blowout sale for her shop because she's moving home, everything is 30% off! Head over to grab some bargain before they disappear. ;D

Consumption Wednesday

My cat Annie is getting naughtier by the day and because we have to apply topical cream for her skin, she's now seeing us as enemies every morning and before bed...sigh...cats and their petulant tempers.

But I still love her dearly and I've been thinking about getting her a bed/home thing...I did some research, they're not cheap. I don't know if she'd like any of these, she seems to just like the floor, or my pillow. ;P Plus I have not much extra space, I think that's my biggest problem. But here what I found:

Top left: This is supposed to be for kids, but I figure it can be for a cat too. ;D Mobile Home by kidsonroof

Top right: I think she may like to jump into one of this in the winter time. Hepper's Pod

Bottom left: This fancy box combine food, water bowl and toilet together, and will definitely blend in with my dark wood floor. Cat Quarters by Inspired Pet Designs

Bottom right: If we can get her to stop scratching us, this could be the solution...but she's not interested in any of the scratch toy we bought, I wonder if this will be any different....Cat Cocoon by One Form Design

Except for the first one, none of them are within my affordable price range. Maybe I should think of making one DIY style.

True words Tuesday

I've been giving myself a little more time off then I really should. Maybe it's the heat, sometimes I just need to have a nice afternoon nap.

My friends and I were talking about going to for a trip early next year, the other day I called her and she said she's ready any second. Me too, but I guess there are another 6 months or so....

If I can press the fast forward button....Even though Adam Sandler already told me in a movie that I really shouldn't. ;P

Friday Night Movie

I am going to catch a late show of this local animated movie called McDull tonight.

If you are not from Hong Kong, you probably never heard of it. This silly pig started as a weekly cartoon column in a local women magazine (mostly gossip), and then over the years, spawn into movies, books, toys, a big franchise.

My husband said he wanted to see a silly movie, and this looks kind of perfect for a Friday night.

They're in Chinese, and the content are very local, but this silly pig always has a little tiny place in my heart, because it represents lots of my childhood's LOL moments. ;P

Friday Collective - A blur memory of San Francisco

It's been quite some years that I went back for a visit. I dream about it the other night, I have some fond memories, but it's getting a bit fuzzy...

When people ask me what I love about San Francisco, right now it's the cool weather. The heat here these couple of days is unbearable.

But I really don't miss the Bart and its smell.

Thursday inspiration

I let life caught up with me a bit. Shop has slowed down a bit so I am working on a series of new things and I enjoyed my new kitty a little too much, it's distracting especially after she learned the joy of jumping on my keyboard...and she has a bit of skin problem, we need to take her to the vet and give her meds everyday..

The artist interview should appear next week, because I just didn't give her enough time to reply with her answers. Talk about bad planning!

So please enjoy this lovely photo by aimee

Consumption Wed - Back to School

When I was little I always wished I could be in school for forever, because I just wanted to avoid working all together. I miss school, especially long breaks for summer and winter.

So if you're packing your school bags for your kid or yourself, these will be nice to have:

Top: Anti-theft lunch bag $9.99 for 25 bags. I have had my share of having my lunch being eaten by someone else, since kindergarten....This will scare people off. Just don't use them every single day, or people will notice. ;P Perpetual Kid

Makes me happy

I finally dug up my ice-cream maker and made some walnut coconut cream sorbet. It was a great hit, and it's gone already. I may make another batch before the summer ends.

Having some ice cold treat while my air con was out of service, made that sorbet taste that much better. That curious cat known as Annie wanted a taste so bad she nearly fell into my bowl...

I adopt the recipes in Vice Cream.

I heart this - SO EN Sept Cover

I can't get over the playfulness of the cover of So-En Sept issue. Granted, you probably won't wear this outside of a fashion studio shoot, but that use of toilet cleaning products for head fascinator is just way too cute...Look at the necklace too...Can't help to share with you guys.

I am now saving up all the colorful plastic bottles...It can be a fun DIY project.

Friday Collective - The end of summer

I noticed all the back to school sales this week, and I just realized, wow, it's mid August already. I used to be a fall lover because of the cooler weather, but I don't know when, summer has become my favorite season...as hot as it is these days, I always feel a bit lost when it's over.

I hope to utilize the rest of it, and beach and sunshine, please just wait for me a little bit.

It's been raining for days now, sometimes, it's just nice to spend an afternoon have some fruit tea and curl up with my Annie. She doesn't like to be held for more than 2 minutes though...restless little kitty. ;D That 2 minutes of fur love makes me really happy.

Consumption Wednesday - Dress envy

Hong Kong is supposed to be the shopping paradise, but when it comes down to finding a nice dress, I envy anybody who has access to Anthropologie, Forever 21, Urban Outfitters and seriously, even Target...

The ever so talented Elsita and her blog posts of her dresses just make me very itchy to buy some nice floral dresses.

Unfortunately, I can't shop on the Internet for clothing, I've tried, but I am a typical pear shape, most often time the top fit, but bottom too tight...

And the shopping paradise known as Hong Kong sometimes failed me.

Makes me happy - my new family member

We welcome home a little Kitty this past weekend. She's an absolutely naughty little girl who plays hard and sleeps hard. We named her Annie for our anniversary. My husband said her middle name should be "mole"...so that she's Annie Mole Fung...

sigh...typical him. He laughed nonstop when he told his little name joke...

I took a bunch of pictures of her, you can see them here.

Makes me happy

Today's our anniversary, finally! With all the built up excitement! ;D

My gift to my husband is this "Tie" clip. Yup, it's clip shaped like a tie plus a little collar, with an "N" for his name. He said he wants something that can last for a long time, like when he's 80 years old and he can still use it, so I added some details for it to looks more classic. He doesn't really wear tie, so I make him this "tie" clip so that he can clip it to his shirt pocket, then it can be tie day everyday without the suffering in the neck area. ;P

It's really nice to be able to handmade something for someone you love...It makes me extra happy.

We'll be watching Mama Mia (again!) in a little getaway hotel in Macau...

Artist Interview - Katie Sokoler

If you live in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, I envy you, because you probably see Katie in action. I found out about Kaite through her blog Color me Katie, and I was instantly hooked by her street arts and her fun personality. Every time I visit her blog, whatever that she's doing always put a smile on my face. I always want to just let loose, but as a Chinese, it's kind of hard to live outside certain boundaries. I am learning to not care and be more spontaneous, and she definitely is a great inspiration.

I am so excited she agrees to answer a few questions and I hope you find it a fun read. ;D

First of all, there are really no words to describe how much I love your street arts. They are just too fun. How did you come up with them?

Thank you so much! I thought of the idea when I found myself wanting to do more than just take pictures. I love to be crafty and I love the community I live in and wanted to become more involved. I realized that these three things don't need to be separate from each other so I brainstormed about different ways of combining all of them. That's when I came up with making interactive street art. I thought I can make things out of paper (craft), hang them up on the street so it interacts with people walking by (community), and then photograph it (photography) !

Do you have to wait for a long time for the right person to be at the right spot to take the thought bubbles and the shadow photos?

Oooooh yeah, but that's what makes it so much fun! When I set up my thought bubbles and shadows on the wall, I never know when I'll get the shot. I usually hang out across the street with my camera out and just wait all day for the right person to walk by and hope that they fit under my pieces. It's such a wonderful feeling to look at the image on my camera and see that it worked!

I am very inspired by all your DIY paper wall installations, they are all so colorful and happy. Do you put them up for a while? Or you take them off right the way after you photograph them?

No way, those stay up on my walls! My apartment is starting to feel like a dream world and I love it.

You do freelance photography for a living and I see that you shoot lots of different things, food, wedding, interior...which type of photography you enjoy the most?

I can honestly say that I love them all equally. It's really exciting to shoot something new each week. I get to exercise different ways of being creative.

I think you have a great eye for capturing the "moment". They all look very natural and not posed, do you have any tips for us for capturing the natural movements?

Don't pose people! Let people do what they naturally do and just document it. That way, every moment is a real moment =)

I once watched a documentary that said that all artists lives in New York or Brooklyn because there are more opportunities. Do you think living in Brooklyn helps you to get recognized?

I'm not exactly sure. I've lived in NY my whole life so I have no idea what it would be like to live anywhere else!

You were the subject of a mini documentary recently, and how did it feel like to have people follow your around and filming your every move?

It was really funny! Street art is something I photograph myself and I make sure to stay pretty undercover but I would turn around and see a film crew documenting me documenting someone else. Curious people on the street would notice us and take out their cameras and start documenting us. It became a giant camera chain!

I read the rules you live by, I have to say, I can't agree more! You talked about being yourself and not care about how other think of you that much. I wonder how did you just come to realize accepting yourself and not being embarrassed. Honestly, that's my main goal I am still kind of working on. I would break into a dance on the street, but when people really look, I would stop, but you just keep going, I really really love that quality of you.

I learned to not care what people think from my boyfriend Matty. He really taught me to just do what makes me happy and that's all that matters. Who cares if some random person on the street is giving you a stink face? I'd rather be the person having fun than be the miserable person on the side with the stink face.

I have a little secret crush over all your colorful dresses, can you tell us where you shop for clothing?

Forever 21! They have so many colorful dresses and they're not expensive, which is great because I ruin dresses pretty quickly. It's hard to be an artist and stay clean!

Your cat Moo is really cute. Apart from be an alarm clock, what other stuff he does that makes you happy?

I love that he tries to be a person. He somehow taught himself to use the toilet and eat food with his hands. The rare times that he does use a littler box, he manages to grab napkins and cover his mess, like toilet paper.

You're involved in Improv Everywhere, I really love all the projects you guys did. Do you guys meet regularly and brainstorm for ideas?

We mostly brainstorm over a message board that we have. We all throw out different ideas that could make the prank work. At some point we take a trip over to the location we pick to figure out how to set it up.

How's your 100 pets project coming along? Will it be shown somewhere when it's done?

It's great but it'll definitely take a while to finish! I'm working on so many different projects right now but I try to combine them if I can. If I'm doing a shoot at some one's apartment and I find out they have a pet, I'll bring my materials for doing the pet portraits so I could get two things done at once. I'm not sure what I'll do with the finished picture yet. I think It could make a super fun poster though...

If you can be an animal, what would it be?

A bird, of course. I don't think I'd ever come down from the clouds.

Anything special coming up for you in the future that we can sit tight and look forward to?

I've been coming up with fun ideas for doing large community art projects so you may not have to sit back and wait if you live in NYC, you can be a part of it!

~~ All photo and video are from Katie's Blog and flickr.

Thank you Kaite! xoxo

YellowGoat Shop

About

If you wonder why Yellowgoat, it's simple, because it's my name. ;D

Yellowgoat comes from the 2 Chinese characters in my name, when pronounce, it can sound like it means Yellow (last name) and Goat (first name), so this is how it came from.

The person behind this blog and the jewelry shop is a female, who's taken. I got married in Aug 2008, and one thing lead to another, I started learning a bit metalsmithing and jewelry making, then instantly I knew I want to do this for a very long time, and will be perfectly happy and enjoy it thoroughly.

Believe it or not, I used to be an animator, then became an local Ad TV producer, which has nothing to do with jewelry, but when I told my friends and family jewelry is what I'm heading, nobody was actually surprised, because I always get an eye for it since I was a teen, and managed to picked the really unique pieces that people looked, praised and asked.

My philosophy for my jewelry and this blog, is to bring happiness to others. I hope to share the joy of creating and finding beautiful things to all the readers and customers.

So, I am Yellowgoat.

(Lots of people ask what my "real" name is, if translate literally by meaning, my Chinese name is actually "King of ocean". ;D, but I go by Petula for a very long time, if you insist.)
